LEED and Green Building

As one of the largest commercial construction management firms in the state, D.W. Wilburn is an industry leader in promoting green and sustainable design, construction and operation. We understand that green and sustainable building has short- and long-term benefits on not just the environment, but also the people who live, work, learn, play and visit within those buildings, as well as the surrounding neighborhoods and communities.

Part of our job as construction manager is to be well-informed and knowledgeable about current green and sustainable building codes and practices, as well as following current market trends that offer environmental benefits as well as long-term environmental and operational benefits to our clients and their constituents.

Potential benefits of green and sustainable design and construction include the following:

D.W. Wilburn offers two members of our project team who are LEED accredited professionals. We actively assist and provide opportunities for all of our employees to further their education and knowledge in this field, and we support their efforts within LEED and the U.S. Green Building Council.

We also have first-hand knowledge of the LEED certification process. We understand the credit categories and how to maximize sustainable features while minimizing overall project cost.

D.W. Wilburn also closely follows green and sustainable design and construction throughout the industry. For each project, we identify emerging trends and their possible fit within the current project.

In addition to these featured projects, which seek overall project certification, D.W. Wilburn also participates in many projects that seek LEED commissioning of specific components or systems within the overall project, including the building envelope system. D.W. Wilburn works closely with owners, architects, engineers and project consultants throughout the design and construction process to foster innovative practices in green building and sustainable design.
