D.W. Wilburn served as general contractor for both phases of the construction of the new Business & Technology Center, including the new Center for Performing Arts, at Eastern Kentucky University. The project was the result of a unique, collaborative planning and funding effort between the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, the City of Richmond, the City of Berea, and Madison County. Project features include a 2,100-seat Broadway capable and quality theatre, a fly system, a 60-foot stage and a configurable blackbox theatre with seating up to 250. It is the second largest theatre of its kind in Kentucky and will host series and special events annually.

 

Project challenges included construction on an active college campus in close proximity to existing facilities and students as well as fundraising efforts during a recession.
