D.W. Wilburn served as general contractor on the second phase of the Science Building at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.

 

The new 158,000 sf facility adjoins the existing new Science Building and adds the Departments of Biological Sciences and Geography and Geology. The second phase added 25 new teaching labs, 31 new research labs, 17 preparation labs, 4 large classrooms, 3 conference rooms, 63 faculty and staff offices and more in a space specially designed for collaborative research among faculty and students and for hands-on learning.

 

Project challenges included new construction to adjoin to an existing, occupied facility, located on an active college campus, and a limited staging area.
